The Mayor of the Bo City Council, Dr. Wusu Sannoh has appointed Councilors Josephine Makieu, Alpha Bah and Alusine Kamara to work with YMCA on the Supporting Youth Livelihood Governance project intended to give young people the capacity to make them employable and hold political leaders accountable.

Residents of Mokanji, Banta Chiefdom, Moyamba District are today in a mood of melancholy as they took advantage of the rebel war to cannibalize the SIEROMCO  bauxite processing plant, staff quarters and administrative blocks, and looted both vehicles and equipment for there selfish ends. Even the hospital wasn’t spared. Many of them thought at the end of the war, the Company would rebuild its demolished infrastructure but such expectation has remained a pipe dream reminiscing the good old days of SIEROMCO in Mokanji.

FARM FIRE CLAIMS 64 HOUSES IN MOYAMBA PDF Print

Councillor Ishmail Momoh deputy chairman of Moyamba District Council has informed this press that 51 houses were burnt down on Friday 11th April at Taninihun Mboka in the Kongbora chiefdom and on the 14th April 13 houses were also on fire in Lago, Kagboro Chiefdom all in the Moyamba district.

  

The fire was reportedly caused by the inhabitants of the villages in the process of burning their farms. Most of these farms were few meters away from the villages.

  

Councillor Momoh says food items and properties were burnt down but there is no report as yet of dead.

  

He said the neighbouring villages are presently harbouring some of the fire victims.

 

The Moyamba District Council is working vigorously to help the victims medically and otherwise.

 

Meanwhile some disaster management agencies are visiting the sites to make a proper assessment.
