Freetown April 8, 2009: Following the attack, vandalisation and looting of the SLPP Headquarters and raping of 6 female supporters on March 13 and 16, 2009, the international community and civil society organizations have facilitated several efforts for bi-partisan dialogue. Under the leadership of the UN Executive Representative of the Secretary-General, the international community facilitated the signing of a Joint Communiqué by the APC and the SLPP. The Civil Society Movement in Sierra Leone (comprising 50 civil society organisations) investigated the attacks and published its report. On behalf of the SLPP, I would like to express our appreciation to the international community and the civil society organizations for their relentless support to democracy and peace consolidation in Sierra Leone.

Landmark Bipartisan Agreement Commits Parties to Collaboration Freetown, Sierra Leone, 2 March 2009 - - Sierra Leone’s two major political parties today pledged to work together to prevent further political violence in the country, with a written agreement to back investigations into last month’s clashes and support preventive measures in such areas as inter-party dialogue, youth employment, police oversight, and nonpartisan broadcasting.
