Acha Kamara Wrongfully Accused…Special Constabulary Was Legally Disbanded |

The Special Constabulary Division of the Sierra Leone Police Force was legally disbanded in April 2004 and the benefits of the affected members duly paid after all formalities and procedures had been undertaken, contrary to what the disbanded members are now telling the public. Though they are now accusing the present Inspector General of Police Brima Acha Kamara of wrongful dismissal, the decision was in fact initiated by the former Inspector General Keith Biddle who said in a memorandum that since the Special Constabulary Division was a “volunteer force”, there was no need to keep them in the police because they were generally inefficient. And secondly there was no provision to pay them, even though they were getting paid, which was a waste of government resources.

There is the tendency for people working in institutions of Government in this nation to become more powerful than the institutions. They grow even bigger than the Chairpersons of the Boards, not to talk about the other Board members. In effect these over bloated personalities become a law unto themselves, serving no one but themselves. In some instances, even the ministers of the supervising ministries are completely impotent to do anything about those over bloated personalities. This has to change!
