 The recent political violence in Freetown and other parts of the country is now a cause for alarm. Both local and international organisations, including the international community, have totally condemned these spates of violence organised by supporters of the ruling All People’s Congress (APC) and the main opposition, the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP).

To say that journalism has had its fair share of ups and downs over the years is to say the least..

At one point in time, not only was the reading culture floundering but newspaper publication was few and far between. Worst still, the print media was severely repressed and the very few newspapers that existed either had unrestrained political leaning or were bankrolled by the powerful political elites and their acolytes, this is not to say that independent newspapers never existed; prominent among these (in Sierra Leone) was The Tablet.

                            The decision to advertise the position of General Manager for the Sierra Leone Ports Authority is a well thought out one. The Acting General Manager, Captain Hubert Bloommer is clearly NOT UP TO THE TASK managing an institution as crucial as the Sierra Leone Ports Authority.The APC’s official mouthpiece the “We Yone” Newspaper is playing politics with the long term survival of an important income-generating institution. If Captain Bloomer is qualified for the job, by all means, let him get it, sim

                            If, as stated by the “We Yone” newspaper, Captain Sawyer was the most suitable for the job, why was he not appointed at the time? Under the SLPP, many well-known supporters and patrons of APC got high profile jobs because of their qualifications.
